Game Rules
Master the rules, dominate the map. Here's everything you need to know about Bonus Walk.
🎮
How to Play
- Open the app and tap Start Walk to begin tracking your route on the map.
- Walk any path through the real world — your trail is drawn in real time.
- Return to your starting point to close the loop and score points for the area you walked.
- Redeem your points for real gift cards.
⭐
Scoring
- Points = area captured ÷ 100.
- In beta, multipliers are disabled — everyone earns points equally based on loop area.
Your average speed during each loop determines the multiplier — see Speed Zones below.
🔘
Closing Loops
- Return to within 15 meters of START to close the loop.
- Your trail must not cross itself.
- Each loop must be at least 1 minute and 100 m² to count.
- After closing a loop, you can start a new one from the same spot.
- You can pause and start from a new starting point.
- You need at least 4 GPS points to close a loop.
❤
LIVES
- You start with 3 lives (reset at midnight).
- Crossing your own trail = 1 life lost.
- Standing still for 5 minutes = 1 life lost — warning appears and phone vibrates at 4 min 30 sec.
- Moving faster than 7 km/h for 15 seconds = 1 life lost.
- Moving at 2 km/h or faster for 30 seconds without your step count increasing = 1 life lost (only after leaving the start circle, when your device reports steps).
- Unrealistic GPS jump (>200m or >50 km/h) = 1 life lost ("Time travel detected").
- Closing a loop under 1 minute or under 100 m² = 1 life lost.
- Not leaving the start circle within 5 minutes = 1 life lost ("Turtle Mode").
- When a life is lost, the path resets and the game pauses.
- 1 life automatically restores every 30 minutes (for beta testing).
- Compensation points are awarded only when active play is at least 15 minutes and the life loss reason is one of: idle, teleport, path crossing, speed, or pause timeout.
- No compensation for steps mismatch, voluntary reset, small loop, or turtle mode.

⏸
Pause & Start
- The game pauses when a life is lost — idle timeout, path crossing, teleport detection, speed violation, small loop, or movement without detected steps.
- Tap Start to continue playing.
- When you tap Start, your current GPS position becomes the new starting point.
- Idle timer resets.
📍
GPS Tips & Known Limitations
- GPS accuracy depends on your surroundings.
- GPS does not work indoors or underground.
- The app must be active and your screen must stay on.
- Your first GPS fix may take a moment.
- Watch out for GPS drift.
- Check your phone settings.
- Battery drain is expected.
⚠️
Why a life can be lost
Each row is a link you can bookmark or share. In the app, tap "Why did I lose a life?" on the life-loss screen to open the matching explanation.
| Reason | What happened |
|---|---|
| Too slow (idle) | After you leave the 15 m start circle, the game expects you to keep moving. If GPS speed stays at or below about 0.5 km/h for 5 minutes, you lose a life. A warning appears and the phone vibrates around 4 minutes 30 seconds. |
| Time travel (GPS jump) | GPS showed a move that is not realistic on foot: either one jump of about 500 m or more, or two points in a row that imply more than 200 m apart or over 50 km/h. After some resumes, a short grace period may ignore the worst jumps. |
| Path crossed | Your trail intersected an earlier part of the same path (you walked over a line you drew before). The game ignores trivial touches at corners and very recent segments so normal turns are usually fine; wide detours matter. |
| Too fast | After leaving the start circle, if GPS speed stays above 7 km/h continuously for 15 seconds, you lose a life. The timer resets when speed is 7 km/h or below. A short grace period after resume may apply. |
| No steps detected | The phone reports steps, you are outside the start circle, and GPS shows movement at 2 km/h or faster for 30 seconds, but your step count did not increase. Often happens on a bike or scooter, or if the phone is not on your body. |
| Loop too small or too fast | You returned inside the 15 m start circle to close a loop, but you were outside for less than 60 seconds and/or the enclosed area is under 100 m². The loop does not count and costs a life. |
| Turtle mode | GPS locked and the start circle was placed, but you did not move more than 15 m from that start within 5 minutes (for example you forgot to stop the game). |
| Pause expired | You used in-game pause and did not return to the pause circle and tap Resume before the pause countdown reached zero. |
| Voluntary reset | You chose Reset in the app. That deliberately costs one life, moves your start to your current GPS position, and clears the current path. |
